Upon Paychecks and the Flu :)
Automatic deposit is a wonderful thing - most of the time. I used to find myself running to the bank last minute, needing to deposit a paycheck before rent was due. Now, I don't worry about it. At all. In fact, I hardly ever even look at my paychecks... until today. Today, I noticed something a little bit odd with last pay period's timesheet, so I checked my bank account online. Thank goodness I did!
For at least the past year, I've been paid pretty much the same amount, give or take a few hours of overtime. Then, in mid-November, my paycheck went down a few hundred dollars. Next pay period, it was a few hundred dollars less. Then another few hundred dollars less. My last paycheck was less than half its usual amount. Yikes!
A note at the top of my recent paychecks references a "$300 additional tax" for federal taxes and a "$150 additional tax" for state taxes. I can't possibly owe $600 in fed taxes and $300 in state taxes a pay period, can I? That's got to be wrong. Also, my exemption has suddenly changed from 1 to 0 and I know I didn't request that.
I emailed accounting right away, of course. Logically, I know this can't be right. I know something is obviously wrong. According to my paycheck, I'm making less now than I did when I first started working here! But I'm worried that they're going to argue with me...
Oh well. I'm trying to wait and see what accounting's email says tomorrow. On the plus side, if they find in my favor - as I think they should - they potentially owe me a large check! :P
In other news, I'm gradually recovering from my illness. I woke up this morning feeling like crap, but I think a lot of it was dehydration and lack of food. I haven't really eaten much since last Thursday. Yesterday I ate a bagel, some toast, and a bit of oatmeal. Total. So I went and bought potato chips. My stomach was not impressed :P
We were supposed to meet with someone about getting a mortgage today, but he cancelled. Apparently he's sick too :P Although I'm sorry he's sick, I was very glad to sleep in this morning. I've been on the go every day since I got sick and it's definitely wearing me out. I still had to go to work, but even a little bit of rest is better than none! :)
Just one day of work left! :) Then I fiiiiiiiinally get a teeny tiny vacation: Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. I'm so excited :) I've made all kinds of plans, from heading into DC to hanging around making crepes. I also need to finish up my Christmas shopping at some point, since I haven't given presents to my friends yet. Or cards. I think I've been carrying around cards for Kelly/Ben, Elena/Dorrie, and someone else who I can't even remember for like 2 weeks now. Perhaps I'll actually send them?
Be patient with me :P I have the flu, after all. Honestly, it's amazing that I've lasted as long as I have! :P
